Into the Fray

Ah, what better kindling with which to start a raging blog than political banter? Since the Pennsylvania primary is to-morrow, I'll join the pundit parade and make a prediction:

Clinton: 52%
Obama: 48%

This is based on averages and trends from Real Clear Politics, this brilliant little demographic analysis on Daily Kos, the conventional wisdom that Mrs Clinton will take about two thirds of those presently undecided and Mr Obama will pick up support from his turnout operations and the simple energy behind his campaign. Also figuring in is my intuition that Mrs Clinton's support is soft and shedding, and that the new raft of registered Democrats — some 310,000 first-time voters, independents, and Republicans alike who haven't been found by the pollsters — will heavily favour Obama.

We'll see to-morrow night.

Et Spiritum Rectum Innova in Visceribus Meis

To celebrate one year of perfect inactivity in the blogosphere, I've decided to start writing again. On what subjects?

To borrow some phrasing, whatever is new, whatever is striking, whatever is unjust, whatever is esoteric, whatever is curious, whatever is of some report, I will write on these things.

To what end?

To fidget intellectually. To occupy the thoughtful, rational, linguistic part of my mind with the fascinating, abstract, and useless, probably in order to avoid the deep, dark, dreadful contemplation of my actual and immediate surrounds. That sounds about right.

It'll be fun, I promise.
